During her student and residency years, she has been also improving her surgical knowledge and skills under the mentorship of Prof. Uroš Ahčan.

Mateja believes in the power of combining art and science. Already during her studies at the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana, Mateja united music and medicine as the event manager and artistic director of medical students' concerts. In collaboration with composer Uršula Jašovec, several musical pieces were specially created and adapted for larger musical ensembles for these events, including a notable charity concert of medical students at the Linhart Hall of Cankarjev Dom titled "Hearing for Africa." With a creative approach, she also merged surgery and art in projects with surgeon Prof. Uroš Ahčan.
She performed multiple times with the doctor's orchestra Camerata medica and appeared at the Gallus Hall of Cankarjev Dom for the 100th anniversary concert of the Faculty of Medicine Ljubljana and the 50th anniversary concert of the Gynecological Clinic Ljubljana. As part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the Ljubljana Maternity Hospital, Mateja created a video-musical story of the maternity hospital titled "Birth."
During her piano studies, she participated in numerous piano competitions, continuously improving her skills at international seminars and piano master classes, performing at numerous solo concerts, chamber ensemble concerts, and orchestra concerts at home and abroad.
